Granite is a desirable counter material because of its durability and grout-free design. But, that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. Granite is a porous material and without being sealed properly, your counters will absorb oils, stains, and spills. That’s why along with regular cleaning, it’s important to make sure the sealant on your granite is in good condition and doesn’t need to be replaced.

You can determine the quality of your granite sealant using a simple test. One way to determine whether or not your countertops need sealant is to add several drops of water on top of the granite, in several locations. Let it sit for 30 minutes. If the water has penetrated the surface within and has darkened the granite, it is time to reseal. Other indicators include dull places on otherwise glossy countertops. Paying attention to the duration between the first couple of reseals can help you set a schedule for future maintenance.

What to do if your cat pees on your carpet.

Not much compares to the odor of cat urine inside of a home. You don’t want to leave urine in your carpets as it will cause bacteria to grow. A professional pet urine carpet cleaner will be able to remove all of the urine and bacteria, as well as the smell.

When you first notice the stain, you will want to work to remove it ASAP so you don’t have a permanent mark on your carpet. It’s easier to treat fresh stains instead of putting it off for another time.

If the stain is still wet, blot up as much moisture as you can with paper towels. Try to use white paper towels, as dye can transfer from a patterned paper towel to your carpet and stain it. Make sure that you are gently blotting at the stain, instead of rubbing. You don’t want to push the urine deeper into your carpet. If the stain is already dry, you can rewet it with cold water and blot at it.

You can use a cleaner to clean the spot, but make sure that you avoid using a cleaner with ammonia since cat urine contains ammonia and it won’t help with the smell. There are cleaning solutions that you can get at a pet store that are designed to remove pet urine odors. Be sure to test any cleaner on a small spot to make sure it works and doesn’t damage your carpet.
